And as you guys already know, this is something that’s really important to the AC team!

How does wet cleaning work?

Unlike conventional dry cleaners who soak clothes in toxic chemicals which then evaporate at very high temperatures, BLANC uses the Woolmark-approved ‘wet clean’ technology. Their specialists hand-treat fabrics with expert use of more natural pre-spotting products and then clean garments with water and biodegradable detergents in their specialist machines. Wet cleaning machines work at much lower temperatures than traditional dry cleaning, so that’s much more gentle on fibres. They calculate individual cycles for each type of fabric or garment type (be it wool, cashmere, silk, lace, etc). Essentially, wet cleaning combines artisan care with expert tech, and provides a much higher quality outcome. The process leaves garments softer, brighter and fresher.

BLANC won the Laundry and Dry Cleaning News Award for ‘Best Sustainability Policy Dry Cleaner’ in 2016, the ‘Best Sustainability and CSR - Dry cleaner’ Award in 2017 and the ‘Janey Loves’ Sustainability Award in 2018. This year, they have won the Common Objective leadership award in the ‘Fashion Tech’ category.

BLANC has been named “London’s Best Dry Cleaner” by the Evening Standard “And Our Favourite Dry Cleaner” by Vogue magazine. They have also been recommended in The Guardian, Daily Mail, Elle, Vanity Fair and Tatler amongst others.

Green at heart

Wet cleaning is the most environmentally friendly professional method of garment cleaning. It does not generate hazardous waste, nor does the process create air pollution. It reduces the potential for water and soil contamination. All the settings used by BLANC clean at much lower temperatures, water is heated on demand to reduce energy usage in machines that are already much more energy-efficient, and steam resulting from this process is used in other parts of the cleaning process.
In addition to their eco-friendly cleaning process, BLANC wants to bring sustainability at every step of the process. They use kraft bags that are recycled & recyclable (and most importantly reusable) and are currently working on sourcing a new poly wrap that will be made out of 100% compostable plastic, which can be treated like any organic waste and will decompose naturally in your compost bin. They also have a reuse scheme and encourage their customers to reuse or bring back everything they receive with their garments (hangers, clips, etc) so they can reuse them. Finally, BLANC works in partnership with a number of charities which operate globally to protect the environment and improve the quality of living.
